Attorney Nicola Cummings earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She also earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Mercer University School of Law. She graduated with a Certificate in Advanced Legal Writing, Research, and Drafting. While in law school she was a member of the president of the Older Wiser Law Students Association, Black Law Students Association, and various other student organizations.  She also earned a Master of Law in Forensic Justice from Virginia University School of Law.

Prior to attending law school, Attorney Cummings worked as forensic scientist. Attorney Cummings has over 20 years experience as a Crime Scene Investigator as Forensic Scientist. She worked as a CSI for almost 10 years with a metro Atlanta police agency where she processed all types of crime scenes including burglary cases, death cases, fire investigation cases, theft cases, and investigated various types of cases. During the investigation, she collected evidence from the scene, took it back to the lab, and processed it forensically.
