This little black winter dress in great of every girl’s wardrobe. It looks great with a turtleneck and some boots. And it’s quite warm as well. It can be worn with or without straps and it looks great with a little jacket. A must have for winter I’d say. The size is small to medium. This dress has a large amount of stretch in it to fit all body types.

ReplyDeleteHi! I'm happy you like it :). For the dress only I used about 2.5 to 3 balls of yarn (at 100 grams each). And than ofcourse you need some more for the straps. Hope this helps!

ReplyDeleteHi! I just tried, and to be honest, the first times that I tried to make a pattern of my own, I really sucked. But the more you do it, the easier it gets. To start, it's always nice to look for an existing pattern that resembles the thing you want to make, so you can base your pattern on that. Good luck!

Also, in the pattern, when decreasing stiches, should all the other stiches be knit or follow the pattern of "K3,P1"?

Hi Joanna! I used an 40mm long circular needle, but I think it wouldn't be a problem to use a longer one, I just don't own one.
ReplyDeleteWhen you are decreasing stitches, you should follow the K3,P1 pattern as much as possible, to prevent it from looking to obvious.

ReplyDeleteHi! To knit in the round, you'll need a circular needle or a set of double pointed needles. You just cast on the needed amount of stitches and at the end of a row, you don't turn and knit the back side, but you start at stitch number 1 again. Now you get a "row without beginning or end". I advise you to get the free pattern from ravelry, since this one is not updated anymore!

ReplyDeleteThe dress itself is very easy. You need to know how to do simple increases and decreases and use a circular needle. The straps are a little harder, because you have to know how to work cables, but you could also consider to make straight knit straps. Good luck!

DeleteJust love this little dress and thought it would be perfect for my daughter in law. I was right, she loved it. My question is - it says acrylic yarn and that is always my choice, but I'm not familiar with the weight DK 8ply seems extremely heavy for the look of this dress. Obviously I'm from the US and from the picture I would have expected you to say 4ply Worsted or (4) weight. Can you give any clarification on the weight issue?

ReplyDeleteMy dress is warm and the fabric is really thick, so it's really only wearable in winter. But I think you could also try a lighter, if the gauge remains the same. Good luck!
I'm 53 and plan on making this for myself. I'll probably make it a little larger and will need to check length as I'm 5' 7''.

ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne! Happy knitting :). The dress is a quite easy project, and the lenght of the skirt is easy to adjust, because it's straight. The straps are a little more complication, but not that much. You could replace them by stockinette stitch or ribbed straps if you want to.

ReplyDeleteThe dress can be sized down. The dress has very little shaping, and the fabric is very elastic, so casting on less stitches would be a good approach. Maybe it's better to leave the shaping out of an 8 year old?
