This little black winter dress in great of every girl’s wardrobe. It looks great with a turtleneck and some boots. And it’s quite warm as well. It can be worn with or without straps and it looks great with a little jacket. A must have for winter I’d say. The size is small to medium. This dress has a large amount of stretch in it to fit all body types.

ReplyDelete@ Len: TY! You're the best BF ever ;)
ReplyDeleteReally great dress! Thanks for demonstrating that using acrylic yarns also produce really cool knitwear. Happy Knitting!
ReplyDeletethis is very gorgeus dress....and i will make this..
ReplyDeleteI am going to make for my daughter. I am a fairly new knitter. What does "double new stitch from last round" mean?
ReplyDeleteWow! I love this dress! I've only been able to find granny-ish dress knitting patterns until now! I adore your blog. I just wondered how many balls of wool did it take to make this dress?
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm happy you like it :). For the dress only I used about 2.5 to 3 balls of yarn (at 100 grams each). And than ofcourse you need some more for the straps. Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteHeyy, I am a fairly new knitter and I adore your patterns. How do you go about writing your own patterns? Although I will almost definitely fail, I would love to try :)
ReplyDeleteHi! I just tried, and to be honest, the first times that I tried to make a pattern of my own, I really sucked. But the more you do it, the easier it gets. To start, it's always nice to look for an existing pattern that resembles the thing you want to make, so you can base your pattern on that. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHeyy, before I attempt this dress, I just wondered what size it is?
ReplyDeleteHi! The dress is a size small, but I think the pattern would be easy ajustable to other sizes. Hope this helps! Good luck.
ReplyDelete:'(. I'm officialy giving up knitting. Spent hours knitting for two days straight and had knitted 15cm of dress only to go completely wrong and have to unravel the whole thing! I was so looking forward to the dress! What is the point! :(
ReplyDeleteOh no! What went wrong? Maybe I can help you with it?
ReplyDeleteWhen you made this pattern, did you work from top to bottom or bottom to top???
ReplyDelete~Thank you SOOO Much for the Pattern!!! I Love it!~
Thanks! The pattern is form top to bottom, so you can make it as long/short as you like.
ReplyDeleteThank You!
ReplyDeleteso i am about to begin this project, but i was wondering what kind of yarn did you use for this?
ReplyDeleteHi Joanna! I used 100% acrylic, self-striping yarn. Happy knitting!
ReplyDeletehi again! so I just ordered the yarn and i have a few questions...
ReplyDeleteHow many inches long should the cable for the circular needle be?
Also, in the pattern, when decreasing stiches, should all the other stiches be knit or follow the pattern of "K3,P1"?
Thanks!
Hi Joanna! I used an 40mm long circular needle, but I think it wouldn't be a problem to use a longer one, I just don't own one.
ReplyDeleteWhen you are decreasing stitches, you should follow the K3,P1 pattern as much as possible, to prevent it from looking to obvious.
Good luck!
Hey! I really like this dress and I wanna make it but I can't figure out what K2T means... I haven't seen that before in all the knitting patterns I've looked at. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi! By K2T is mean knit 2 together, but the regular abbreviation is K2tog. In the new PDF version of the pattern (a free ravelry download) that's all updated
ReplyDeleteOk thank you very much! I appreciate it! :D
ReplyDeletei don't understand the knitting in rounds, how do you join...i just started to knit and would love too make this. please help me
ReplyDeleteHi! To knit in the round, you'll need a circular needle or a set of double pointed needles. You just cast on the needed amount of stitches and at the end of a row, you don't turn and knit the back side, but you start at stitch number 1 again. Now you get a "row without beginning or end". I advise you to get the free pattern from ravelry, since this one is not updated anymore!
ReplyDeletehow hard is this for a newbee knitter???
ReplyDeleteThe dress itself is very easy. You need to know how to do simple increases and decreases and use a circular needle. The straps are a little harder, because you have to know how to work cables, but you could also consider to make straight knit straps. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI would like to make this dress immediately. I cannot find the free pattern anywhere to download from this site. Please help!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi! You can just click on the picture of the globe with the arrow about the small pictures in this post. The downloading of the PDF pattern should start immediately. Just let me know if it is not working, and I'll try to help. Thanks for using my pattern, btw!
ReplyDeleteI tried clicking on where u said and I get not the PDF pattern but a bunch of numbers and letters, help..
DeleteHi! I just check that again (I'm sorry for the late response, I was abroad). On my computer it works fine. What you could do, is trying to go to ravelry and download it straight away from there. The link for that is: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/moonlight-dress
DeleteJust love this little dress and thought it would be perfect for my daughter in law. I was right, she loved it. My question is - it says acrylic yarn and that is always my choice, but I'm not familiar with the weight DK 8ply seems extremely heavy for the look of this dress. Obviously I'm from the US and from the picture I would have expected you to say 4ply Worsted or (4) weight. Can you give any clarification on the weight issue?
ReplyDeleteHi Sally! Thanks for using my pattern :). I double checked the yarn weigth, and it really is 8 ply. This is a link to the yarn I used: http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/wibra-bianca
ReplyDeleteMy dress is warm and the fabric is really thick, so it's really only wearable in winter. But I think you could also try a lighter, if the gauge remains the same. Good luck!
I'm 53 and plan on making this for myself. I'll probably make it a little larger and will need to check length as I'm 5' 7''.
ReplyDeleteHi, I just joined and was looking through and found your blog and adorable dress. I am quite new to knitting but would love to try this one for myself. Wish me luck.
ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne! Happy knitting :). The dress is a quite easy project, and the lenght of the skirt is easy to adjust, because it's straight. The straps are a little more complication, but not that much. You could replace them by stockinette stitch or ribbed straps if you want to.
DeleteI really would like to make this dress for my 8 year old granddaughter. Can it be sized down. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThe dress can be sized down. The dress has very little shaping, and the fabric is very elastic, so casting on less stitches would be a good approach. Maybe it's better to leave the shaping out of an 8 year old?
ReplyDeleteHow do we get the free pattern? There is nothing to click on to receive the pattern.
