This article is about the language. For the Elven people, see Vanyar. |
Vanyarin Quenya, also called Vanyarin or Quendya, was the Quenya dialect spoken by the Vanyar.
History[]
Vanyarin Quenya started to diverge from the common tongue when the Vanyar decided to abandon Eldamar for Váli-màr, in order to live closer to the Valar. In fact, some of the differences between the two dialects of Quenya may be due to the influence of the Valarin, since more of its words were adopted by the Vanyar than by the Ñoldor.[1] However, Quendya was generally more conservative than Ñoldorin Quenya.[2][3]
Because Ñoldorin Quenya was more widespread, since the Ñoldor came to Middle-earth, making known their language among the Moriquendi and the Edain, Vanyarin Quenya was considered a less known, elusive dialect, spoken only in Valinor.
