Events

Eorl arrives at the Field of Celebrant.

• The Balchoth invade Calenardhon. The northern army of Gondor is nearly destroyed but is saved at the Battle of the Field of Celebrant by the arrival the Éothéod, led by Eorl the Young.
• In gratitude Steward Cirion of Gondor grants to Eorl the depopulated province of Calenardhon, on the condition that the two peoples be perpetually allied. Eorl swears the Oath of Eorl to that effect, and moves his kingdom there, founding the Kingdom of Rohan.
• Celebrían, daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn, weary of the world after her torment by the Orcs, departs from Middle-earth to the Undying Lands.
