The seal of the Stewards was the official mark of the authority of the Ruling Stewards of Gondor.

History[]

The seal was made up of the letters R·ND·R below three stars which stood for Arandur, the King's Servant.[1] The seal could be placed on anything bearing a message for others. When Gondor grappled with the Balchoth, the Steward Cirion had the seal incised on six small stones sent with riders of endurance to seek aid from the Éothéod. Borondir was the only one who succeeded, carrying his seal stone to the Lord of the Éothéod Eorl the Young.[2]
