This article is about the Steward of Gondor. For the Elf of Gondolin, see Egalmoth of the Heavenly Arch.

Egalmoth was the eighteenth Ruling Steward of Gondor.[2]

Biography[]

Egalmoth was born in TA 2626. He was the grandson of Morwen, the daughter of Belecthor I, and the great-nephew of Orodreth. When the seventeenth Ruling Steward Ecthelion I died in TA 2698 without issue, Egalmoth succeeded his cousin as Steward. The majority of Egalmoth's rule passed uneventfully, likely with minor warfare against the Corsairs of Umbar and forces of Minas Morgul. Egalmoth died in TA 2743 at the age of 117, after a rule of forty-five years, and was succeeded by his son Beren.[2]

Etymology[]

Egalmoth might have been named after the Lord of Gondolin, Egalmoth. Though the name has unknown meaning, it consists of the Sindarin word moth ("dusk").[3]
