Random Sampler Cont.

I actually stitched this a few days ago. I am just adding to the sampler (or more like doodler =) with the same threads I found. I want to add to this with new colors. I have decided to take just my bag of embroidery floss out of storage. The creator in me is longing for lots and lots of colors. The stitches used here are:

Buttonholed Herringbone (which I think I've done before)

Practice:

Chain Stitch
Back Stitch
Straight Stitch

The colors really made me think of St. Patrick's Day so I decided to stitch some clovers. The small ones are done in chain stitch.
I hope to get my floss soon but if not I guess it will give me some time to work on my cross stitch which I have been neglecting lately. I just can't find the motivation to work on it.

Oh yeah, aren't the letters spelling "LUCKY" cute. I think they're adorable.
Hope everyone else is happily stitching!

Random Stitching

Hello everyone! It's been a crazy day today. I am going for my road test tomorrow and I am trying not to be overly nervous. My Hubby helped me practice parallel parking out front. I feel a bit better about it. However, my mission for the day has been to keep my mind off of it.

When I got home from work, I thought about working on my cross-stitch, but honestly, it gives me too much freedom to think. That would ultimately lead to stressing about the test. So after dinner I scrounged for fabric. I was in luck and found a decent strip! Yay! Now I can stitch something free hand.

I dug out some thread I saved from storage, it is only a few colors in green and beige. However, due to St. Patty's Day coming up, I think it's fitting. I instantly though of the latest TAST stitch I saw over on Sharon Boggin's blog. Here is the link:

For the small sampler I did, I used the following stitches:

1. Laced Square Herringbone (new)
2. Raised Herringbone Band (new)
3. Knotted Feather Stitch (new)
4. Cast-On Stitch (practice)
5. Bullion Knot (practice)

Some of these stitches were new for me and some were practice.

Here is a picture of the sample:

Busy Winter

Hello all! This Winter has found me extremely busy. I have been working late at work most days. I have been desperately longing to stitch and just can't find the time. I would love to put the progress into my cross stitch, but I don't find it worth it if I don't have at least a good uninterrupted hour. The progress is disappointingly little. This past weekend I hunted around the house for a scrap piece of fabric to try some new stitches out. Unfortunately I did a really good job of consolidating my stash when I put it in storage. I find it amazing that I could not find one scrap anywhere. Oh well, if I don't stumble across something soon, I will just pick up some muslin this weekend. I hope y'all are finding time to stitch! Until next time...

Hub Boxcars

When I started this blog I know I mentioned some model train stuff may find it's way here. Today I put together a couple of boxcars I had received for Christmas. They are gifts from my model train club. They are meant to represent the club being together for fifty years. The first boxcar is from 1958. I thought it would be fun to weather it to make it look older. The rust doesn't show up as good on camera. The second boxcar is from 2008. I left this car as it was.

Cinderella Progress Report

I have been working on this cross-stitch project since last October. Progress has been tediously slow. However a big part of that has been due to the hustle and bustle of the holidays. I am hoping progress will pick up now that I have a bit more time on my hands. My vague goal is to complete it before the end of the year, however I won't take that too seriously or the stress of finishing by then will take away all the fun.

I have tried to organize everything very neatly. Each bag of threads is stored next to the card it was removed from.

Below you can see 1 / 6 bags of thread.

Each color is stored in a tiny bag as pictured below. I was able to fit 2 strings (6 strands each) in each bag. So I have several bags of the same color depending on how many of each color the kit came with. There is a tiny piece of paper in each bag with the color number on it. This method seems a bit too much in retrospect but I am happy with it. It has been really easy to keep track of my threads and to keep them from tangling. It took maybe 4 or 5 hours to sort the kit out this way before I started stitching.

Here is the progress so far. It is an ity bitty portion of the sky.

To put it into perspective here is the entire piece. I have a long way to go.

I am taking a business trip to Kentucky next week. I hope to get quite a bit done while I'm away. Why not? I won't have anything else to do right?

Cross-stitch Crazy

It has been awhile since I've blogged, but today I really feel like jumping back in. A lot has changed since last I posted. Due to space limitations in my small apartment I had to put my entire sewing stash into storage. It was a bit sad really. Now all I have available to me are these two boxes.

The blue box was a Christmas gift from my husband. I love the colors. The contents of the plastic box were a birthday present from my husband. I realized I could not cut sewing cold turkey. I really wanted to try cross-stitching some detailed pieces and fell in love with the Disney Thomas Kinkade collection. The kits are perfect because everything is included and I don't have to worry about starting a huge thread collection. (Which I kinda already started, but I put it in storage.)

These are the two kits I received for Christmsas. Both are Thomas Kinkade pictures.

The first is Pinnoccio from the Disney Collection.

The second is a kit my husband really liked. This will be for him when it's finished.

This is the kit in the plastic container. It is Cinderella from the Disney collection. I have been working on this since October and you will be surprised when you see how little is done. It is frustrating how long these pieces take to complete. However because there is nothing else available to sew, I do not get bored with it. Honestly, I feel it is teaching me a great deal of patience. I am learning to appreciate the act of creating instead of rushing to a finished piece and not being completely satisfied with the outcome.

Post Postponement

Hey everyone. I had hoped that I could really keep up with blogging this year. I had high hopes of doing so in January. It has become glaringly apparent however that I just do not have the time. I think I've only posted a few times throughout the whole year. That is just sad. Frustratingly I haven't even had time to sew either. So I have come to the rather late decision to post pone both blogging and sewing until the start of next year. I believe if I do that I will be able to focus on my new position at work and focus on moving into a house by the end of the year. Even though I will not be posting or sewing I will still be following you all. Your work is truly inspirational. I will need the motivation to pick it back up! Thank you all for your wonderful comments and support.
