Going on a bit of a click-leads-to-click that started with Damien Hirst I ended up on the page of Other Criteria, an art publisher co-founded by Mr. Hirst. They have done a lot of really great art books with so much punch-in-the-face effect. Just look at the yummy stuff below.

It is WRONG that I’ve never featured Swedish born fashion mag Rika before, WRONG I tell you! Cause it is one of those magazines where I just love the typography even if it’s weird and wonky. It is so elegant and fashiony (that’s a word!) and yet a different take on the slim neo classic Bodoni look alikes that would often fit the fashion mag bill. As always, I greatly appreciate design with contrasy and Rika has it all.

Did you get all your Christmas presents yet? I didn’t, actually I’ve only just started! Don’t have to get that many though, but wrapping them, of course, takes time for someone like me, finding the right paper, the right ribbon, the right washi tape. OK I’ve just revealed that I’m a Christmas wrapping neurotic/expert. So psssst! here’s a tip. Hurry up an order the magazine Wrap, it’s a magazine about illustration but each issue has sheets of wrapping paper in it with illustrations from the people who are featured in the magazine. My presents are VERY special! ;-)

You might have noticed that I have a bit of a winter frown on me, one of these days I’m gonna post a photo of Danish winter and you will think I’m living in a black and white movie…correction, a shades of grey movie (no, not the naughty one!) So I find that everything that catches my eye these days, and that I wanna show you guys, has the be FILLED with colour. And here’s another one, when I found Leta Sobierajski I got a huge smile on my face. I kinda wanna live in her photoshoot world where the bananas are polkadotted and the backgrounds are BRIGHT! YAY!

I have always been a huge fan of ceramic art. Although I have no experience doing it myself I feel so connected to the craft that goes into it and it’s such a great medium for making juxtapositions between shape, material, colour, style and so forth. Just look at the work from Japanese artist Jun Kaneko I love the running colour against the soft rounded outer shape and the hard colour blocking.

If you’re a Christmas present short for someone who loves typography and illustration, then you should check out the calendars from Swedish Team Hawaii. This would look good on MY wall at least :-)

I’ve shown you work from Stranger and Stranger before but I want to post them again because I find them such a fascinating company. How do they do it?!?!?! How have they become so good and specialized within one very specific field of packaging design? In tiny little Denmark it would not be possible to be a company that ONLY does wine and booze packaging because the market is so small. But it seams that everytime I go to the liquer store (I go there sometimes just to look at pretty booze bottles…NERD!) my eyes are drawn to a really nice bottle and I discover that it’s done by Stranger and Stranger.

Look at this great identity by Seattle based agency Creature (LOVE the name!). It’s for a wok food restaurant and I think it’s so great to see how a very simple vector style is made so lively using loads of contrast in size and placing and pairing that with a bit of natural wood and handdrawn letters and strokes. An absolutely fabulous mix with JUST the right ingredients! I bet the food is good too!

I blogged Timothy Goodman’s work for Ace Hotel AGES ago but it’s time give the man a bit of credit again because he has done AMAZING work since. He did a great installation at the Airbnb headquaters (great use of rough materials) but what I love even more is two personal projects that he did alongside Jessica Walsh (who, by the way, is also AWESOME!). You may have heard of their experiment to date each other for 40 days and now their dating experiment has become a book that that you can get your hands on in about a months and a half. It’s looking really nice from here. Just have a look at the video below. I’m also just loving the Quotes on Shit project. It’s so simple, and yet it just makes me smile every time I see one of those handlettered quotes on a painted figure. Thanks for brightening my day to both of you :-)

I’ve only just discovered Chicago based studio Firebelly, but I already love their work. I came across two of their publications for their series of typography exhibitions called Typeforce and they were just so well designed. I love how they are somehow visibly united in a series but yet SO different from each other. AWESOME work!
