I developed an understanding of the numerous elements of poetry; there are basically five. Certain lines in a
poem discuss the quantity of syllables or stresses that the poem has. The stanza that follows allows their
phrases to either flow naturally and build tension, or they can fit perfectly inside those structures. Next, we
have a rhyme and rhyme scheme. Rhyme is the repeating of a word's last sounds. However, a poem's rhyme
system means the arrangement of its rhymes. We have also discussed meter and rhythm, as poets seriously
rely on rhythm to express meaning and produce emotion. The last type of element is Figurative Language,
which intentionally breaks from the literal meaning of words or sentences. Also, I learned about the forms of
Filipino poetry in the 21st century, such as sawikain, bugtong, awit, and epiko. The English language was
introduced to Filipinos during the period of American colonialism, along with the poetry forms of the new
colonization groups, such as novel criticism and free verse. In the Philippines, spoken word poetry is the
most common form of poetry. It places a significant value on wordplay, slang, rhymes, improvisation, and free
association. I also discovered Textula/Textanaga, where poets may construct poems with four lines and
seven syllables each by following one of the four different rhyme systems. Rap battle is another form of
poetry. Lines that are written or not are acceptable. Both use rhyme and meter in their bars or verses to
deceive their opponent while taking part in verbal sparring. The Guidelines in Poetry Analysis are the most
important piece of knowledge I have learned. You must read the poem aloud first. Poets write poetry, play
with words, and use rhymes and rhythms to shape the poem's meaning. Next, study the poem's content.
Poems often tell a story or express emotions. You have to be aware of the rhythm. We don't focus on rhythm
to see if the poet has followed the English language's natural rhythm. We use it to figure out when the poet
breaks away from the rhyme scheme they have chosen for themselves. You must also search for techniques.
You must be able to explain how a poet created their poetry with meaning. It is important to be conscious of
usual literary devices and techniques and try to figure out what they mean. Lastly, the poetic form must be
given consideration. This allows you to talk about the way the poet is either rejecting or maintaining the rules
of the poetry.
