Slalom ranks 48 on this year's Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For Europe list.
Employees say:
"This is the best company I have worked for. I appreciate the inclusiveness, the dedication of others to show up as the best version of themselves and contribute, and them training and mentoring the company has invested in. I decided to join Slalom because of some of these factors but until you are here it's hard to decide if it is hype. I've certainly been at companies that spent a great deal of time talking about culture, but Slalom understands culture is something you experience more than describe."
Employees say:
"I've never worked at an organization that truly cares for their people in every action and decision that they make. Initiatives such as HabLab which is a department formed and funded to study of habits and habitats of Slalom employees to shape the future of work at Slalom, decisions to not do layoffs when every other firm was, and investing in people are something I find unique and appreciate above all else."
Slalom’s August 2022 pay-equity analysis confirmed the professional services firm’s commitment to ensure all employees are compensated fairly: Slalom has maintained base-pay ratio equity for all gender identities globally, and for each race and ethnicity in all U.S. markets. Valuing diverse employees goes beyond equal pay: A variety of employee resource groups and partnerships with national professional organizations, such as Girls Who Code and the National Society of Black Engineers, help connect employees, with positive impact throughout the firm.
Slalom helps break down barriers to management through The Pulse, its internal monthly video series, along with regular town halls broadcast live from Slalom’s Seattle headquarters, where an audience of several hundred employees have the opportunity to ask company leaders questions in real time.
AI plays a significant role in Slalom’s global business and tech consulting practice: The company launched an internal generative AI hub last year, which features a growing collection of tools, insights, and stories alongside a gen AI acceptable use policy. Slalom believes the technology will enhance human capabilities rather than rendering them obsolete, engaging with gen AI through its first campaign, titled “Impossible? That was yesterday.”
Slalom is a global consulting company where teams around the world are given ownership over their work and are encouraged to pursue their passions.
- As opposed to other “up or out” promotion models in consulting, Slalom offers a flexible career path where employees can learn and grow across the company.
- Slalom’s philanthropic arm awarded 11 grants last year to organizations in the U.S., the U.K., and Australia that are fighting racism and promoting equality. This is just one part of its three-year Social Equality Initiative pledge.
- Slalom added a Well-Being Travel Program, which covers domestic travel for employees who need to seek medical care that is restricted in their state.
- Ninety-five percent of Slalom employees say they’re “encouraged to balance their work life and their personal life.”
Employees say:
"The culture of people makes such a difference. Everyone is welcoming and so friendly. Management are extremely supportive. I know they have my best interest in mind, as well as the business's."
Employees say:
"Slalom has done everything it possibly could to help me make working here possible. I've had many life-changing situations in the past three years, and Slalom has supported me through it all. I absolutely love my job and want to work at Slalom for a very long time."
Employees say:
"Slalom Consulting is an environment where they encourage people to be their authentic selves, no matter which market employees may be in. There is a fast pace of work, and Slalom Consulting allows for accelerated career growth where you are supported by your mentor and management leadership as well."
In a day and age when seemingly every employer talks about the importance of mental health, Slalom actually walks the walk. Not only does the Seattle-based global consulting firm encourage its employees to pursue meaningful work through flexible career paths, it also sets them up for success outside the office by prioritizing self-care. In addition to its employee assistance program (which includes a 24/7 support hotline as well as free access to the Headspace meditation app and digital counseling platform Talkspace), Slalom introduced a global THRIVE benefit, which allows workers to be reimbursed up to $350 annually for any expenses that improve their well-being, be it exercise equipment or a day at the spa—the benefit was doubled to $700 in 2021. It also provided staff with a $200 stipend for home office equipment.
Employees say:
“The people are extraordinary. I feel confident in saying that no other place values their employees on a personal basis as much as Slalom. Whereas most places only recognize things that happen during working hours, Slalom goes above and beyond to share the triumphs people have in all aspects of their lives.”
Employees say:
“Real diversity. People come from various backgrounds, most have international experience (one of our colleagues spent 5 years in Thailand before joining our tech team, another worked in Berlin). I've been in a data team where everybody was a woman (data scientist, data engineer, engagement leader). Before joining Slalom, I used to be the only woman on the team.”
Employees say:
“Slalom really lives its values - one of my favorites is “be your authentic self” and I truly believe I can be myself every day I come to work. They also encourage me to try new things, make mistakes and learn from them. The people are incredibly supportive on a local and national basis. People were reaching out immediately when I was hired and I immediately felt included.”
