Eunheui

Eunheui is the name of my cat. The name rhymes with odd words like "goony" and "moonie." Oh, well. It is a fairly common name for women in Korean. That does not mean the author of this blog is a woman or a Korean, though.

Eunheui lived in a park before she decided to move into my place. "The cat in the park," then, became "Ms. Park." We thought it would be nice for her to have a full name, and gave her a Korean-sounding first name which would match her surname. "Eun Heui" means "faithful princess."

I live in Kyoto, Japan. If you live, or have lived, in Tokyo, Nagoya, or Western Massachusetts, we could have been neighbors.

What is this blog all about?

I post almost daily, mostly about the newspaper articles that I have read. My posts are in Japanese, but I speak English too. If you have come by this way in search of something I have written about, feel free to (address encoded in Javascript). I may be able to help.

Some of the recurring topics that I choose to write about are:

• peace in the Middle East,
• gold mining and environment in Indonesia,
• human rights, especially gay rights,
• resurgence of militarism and nationalism in Japan,
• Africa,
• literature available in English,
• text archiving and copyright,
• language and education.

The list in fact goes on and on. I would like to cover most everything that a tolerant, multicultural society cares about. No sacred cow here! I am not an expert in any of these, though, except perhaps for the last.
