Etymology

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *siŋ ~ sik (wood). Cognate with Tibetan ཤིང (shing, tree, wood) and Burmese သစ် (sac, log, timber, wood). Compare its phonetic component (OC *siŋ, “new”) and Burmese သစ် (sac, new).
