Edits by your students on effects of climate change
[edit]Hi, I've just removed quite a few of your students' additions to the article effects of climate change. It's a shame because I am sure they worked hard and had the best intentions. I have explained on the talk page and in the edit summaries the reasoning for my removal of their text blocks. Mostly it was that they used poorly cited content, outdated sources (usually primary sources, see WP:PST), sometimes not following WP:DUE, going into too much detail for an overview article such as this, mixing up a range of topics, e.g. effects of urbanisation. I think in many cases they would have been better off working on the smaller sub-articles, like effects of climate change in New Zealand or effects of climate change on terrestrial animals. What I don't understand is why they often used publications that were decades old, e.g. from 2006! Why didn't they simply use content from the latest IPCC AR 6 WG I report? This would have given them lots of up to date information and references. I feel that they should have had better guidance along the way. I am sorry that I only noticed all these edits now, otherwise I would have said something earlier. EMsmile (talk) 11:58, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

Student edits could use more citations
[edit]Hi there. Fellow Brooklynite here. I noticed a student's edits to Birding in New York City didn't include any citations. I removed it for the time being and left a message on the article's talk page. Looking at the Dashboard, it looks like additions to desert greening don't have any either. Ditto Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis, and it's formatted very oddly for a Wikipedia article. I didn't keep looking, but you may want to. Wikipedia typically needs citations to reliable sources for any added content, and generally content should be integrated into an article rather than pasted into discrete blocks. FWIW. Courtesy ping for Ian (Wiki Ed). On the birding article I mentioned a few of the things in the addition which would be useful to add (if accompanied by citations) -- happy to talk more about that one. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 14:12, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback. Students are working on their final submissions today, and porting things over onto the main pages. I'm guessing that you may have caught this 'in the act', as I know that the students have extensive bibliographies on their sandbox pages. I'd ask you to be patient through the day today as students make their final edits. The deadline is 11:59pm today, and I'll be taking a closer look at their final submissions over the next few days myself. Brooklynbiology (talk) 17:08, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
