Digital avatars and band activity discussion
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
With the conclusion of the band's final tour and the digital avatars announced, I figured that while it is still a long ways away from beginning their estimated performances in 2027, that there should be a discussion regarding the band's activity.
As we know, the band stopped being active after their final show, and that the digital avatars will be continuing to perform for them. My argument is that when the avatars begin their performances, the "year active" parameter should not include "2027" as I feel that it could potentially cause some confusion with readers who think that the band have become active again. Digital avatars performing does not mean that the band is active again. Let us take ABBA as an example, as they are using digital avatar versions of themselves. The members were present when the virtual avatars began performances for ABBA Voyage in 2022, and while they were counted as active, they no longer were making any music or touring.
If by chance, the digital avatars go out on tour, I also think that there should be sub-headings in the "Tour" section when the time comes, which separates between the band tours and the digital avatar tours. Otherwise it might confuse readers per my statement in the paragraph above that I mentioned before. That is what I am saying, and would like to see the input from other editors on this. - 100% the avatars are not the actual band. It should always be made completely clear to avoid confusion.★Trekker (talk) 21:34, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
- This I definitely agree. I've added a hidden note for the years active parameter in the Infobox to make sure that this is clear when that time comes. HorrorLover555 (talk) 21:32, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
RFC
[edit]Based on the discussion above, should the band be counted as 'active' in the infobox when the digital avatars begin performances, or should they not to avoid confusion with readers? HorrorLover555 (talk) 13:24, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Will the avatars be singing simulated songs?· · · Peter Southwood (talk): 16:44, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- More seriously, who are the band? Would an avatar be more authentically a member of a band than a drum machine or a programmed synthesizer? Could it pass the Turing test? I would not think so. If not, then how could the "band" be active if no member is active? I would accept that a simulation is running/active, but the band is not.· · · Peter Southwood (talk): 16:58, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not active I do not think that the band's activity should be noted as active. There is a huge difference between the band actually performing and the digital avatars being set on stage - to note and keep with the sources, the band retired in 2023. HorrorLover555 (talk) 13:33, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not active (invited by the bot) Activity is about what the band is / isn't doing. Not other things such as tribute bands, avatars, AI creations, etc. North8000 (talk) 18:05, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not active At some point, we may wish to coin a unique status for bands that perform using digital avatars and not the flesh-and-blood musicians. For now, "not active." Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:40, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, there may be a status regarding "digital avatars" performances. But that will be left to the WikiProjects for future discussions if they can include something like that or not, like if they should have their own dedicated part in a section on "Tours" or "Concert residencies". In regards to activity on the infobox, we'll leave that to future discussion. HorrorLover555 (talk) 15:05, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
Should the 6 former members be listed under the "Band members" section?
[edit]In an attempt to avoid an edit war with the other user, I'd rather get other opinions on this: should KISS' 6 former members be listed? Most of them, especially Peter and Ace, were incredibly important to the band's history. And even though there's a separate page, it is quite common to have all members listed anyway (so long as it's not a huge number - 6 really isn't that much in my opinion). See The Beatles or Motörhead for examples of inactive bands with a dedicated members page & only a small amount of former members. Xanarki (talk) 03:22, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- If you believe that it would improve the article and as long as each member has sources, then it should be okay. HorrorLover555 (talk) 13:13, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think a source next to every former member is necessary though. Admittingly I'm not a huge Kiss fan, but glancing over the articles I just assumed this would've been non-controversial based on my reasons above. Xanarki (talk) 15:59, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
