Hexham Rowing Club is a rowing club on the River Tyne, based at Tyne Green boathouse, Nr Hexham Bridge, Hexham, Northumberland. Rowers aged 12 and upwards of any ability are allowed to join the club.[1][2]
History
[edit]The club was founded as the Hexham Boat Club in 1878 and celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2008.[3]
In 1958, a new boathouse was built and the club admitted women for the first time. The project was overseen by former Olympic coach George Flint.[4] In 1981, facilities were further improved following a promotional scheme.[5]
The current boathouse belongs to Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham and is shared with the School.[6] The Hexham Canoe Club also operate from the same venue.
The annual Hexham Regatta is held on the first Saturday of June.[7]
In recent years the club has had success at the 2022 British Rowing Junior Championships and 2023 British Rowing Junior Championships, which included winning two gold medals.[8][9]
