The 1973 Aerocondor L-188 Electra crash occurred on August 27, 1973 when a Lockheed L-188 Electra operated by Aerocóndor Colombia, struck a mountain after takeoff. All the 42 occupants onboard were killed leaving no survivors.[1][2][3]

Aircraft

[edit]

The aircraft was a Lockheed L-188A Electra, MSN 1115 and registered HK-777.[1][3] The aircraft was manufactured in 1959 in Burbank, United States and had its first flight on December 22, 1959 then became apart of American Airlines on December 31, 1959 and registered N6125A until April 11, 1969.[3]

Accident

[edit]

After taking off from the airport, the crew failed some procedures and there was limited visibility as the aircraft climbed.[1][3] The airliner's wing tip collided by a slope of the Eastern Hills, which the aircraft immediately disintegrated after the impact, killing everyone onboard.[1][3]
