Warrant Officers are never considered field grade officers, nor do they wear field grade uniforms. They aren't commissioned at all! The DoD source is incorrect about USN & USCG O-5s and O-6s. O-1 to O-4 in the sea services are junior officers. O-5 and O-6 are senior officers. O-7 and up are flag officers. I know because I was a career USCG officer and am now retired. undo
