I've submitted draft-perkins-irtf-code-of-conduct-06 ("IRTF Code of Conduct") to the IETF.

This version of the IRTF Code of Conduct is intended to address the IRSG Ballot comments. It makes the following changes:

• Reorganise the sections on "Language and Imagery" and "Participation and Accessibility" to put the material into a more logical order without changing the content.
• Rename the section on Academic Integrity to Research Integrity
• Update the discussion on documenting use of AI and LLMs to exempt automated systems that make spelling, stylistic, or grammar corrections, or that translate between languages.
• Clarify that concerns about moderation should be raised with the IAB, not specifically with the IAB Chair.

I've submitted draft-perkins-irtf-code-of-conduct-05 ("IRTF Code of Conduct") to the IETF.

This version of the IRTF Code of Conduct is submitted to address the Last Call comments. It makes the following changes:

• Move the Rationale earlier in the document
• Clarify definition of harassment to read “Harassment is behaviour that is unwelcome, hostile, or intimidating. Harassment includes, in particular, …” rather than “Harassment is unwelcome, hostile, or intimidating behaviour, in particular….”
• Be specific that harassment is not tolerated in virtual meetings rather than implying this under “other online forums”.
• Add a paragraph to say: “The IRTF sometimes organises meetings or activities that co-locate with events organised by others. These meetings or activities may need to follow the anti-harassment policy of the hosting event, which may differ from that of the IRTF. In such cases, the organisers of the IRTF meeting or activity should check with the IRTF Chair to confirm that the policy is acceptable and it should be made clear to participants what policy applies.”
• Clarify that permanent suspention of posting rights requires approval from the IRTF Chair, not merely consultation.
• Minor clarifications to the wording about Language and Imagery.
• Clarify that documents Internet drafts that build on prior work should onyl be written with the permission of any co-authors.
• In research ethics, rephrase “ensuring that those who bear the risk also gain some benefit” to “taking care to ensure that…”
• Clarify that “restrict individual from using IRTF systems” should be “…using IRTF IT systems” to match [RESTRICTING].

I've submitted draft-perkins-irtf-code-of-conduct-03 ("IRTF Code of Conduct") to the IETF.

This version of the IRTF Code of Conduct includes the following clarifications and additions:

• Clarify that permanent suspension of posting rights requires IRTF Chair approval
• Clarify that the Ombudsteam is not part of the appeals process.
• Consistently use the wording “research group meetings, open meetings, conferences, workshops, other events" to describe the events covered by the code of conduct
• Add statements required by RFC 5743 section 2.1

There are also a number of minor editorial fixes throughout. Thanks to Dhruv Dhody and the IRSG members for their feedback and comments.

As I will be stepping down as IRTF Chair next year, I thought it useful to attempt to outline the set of tasks the Chair performs, to inform anyone considering standing as my successor. Along with others in the Internet technical standards community, I have today signed an open letter the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, and the Secretary General's Envoy on Technology, Amandeep Singh Gill, expressing concern around some aspects of the development of the Global Digital Compact relating to Internet Governance.
