Paediatric immunologists manage a range of disorders ranging from primary immunodeficiency disorders, secondary immunodeficiencies, periodic fever syndromes, C1 esterase inhibitor deficiency and other inflammatory and vasculitic disorders.
Primary immunodeficiency disorders (PIDs) are rare diseases with variable severity. Mild immunodeficiencies can lead to recurrent minor infections and more severe disorders can cause life-threatening infections and other life-limiting complications. Some of these cases will need lifelong therapy and/or stem cell transplant.
