Staff and faculty at the Center for African Studies are working hybrid schedules that combine on-site and remote work. No matter where we are working from, however, we are available to answer questions Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.

Office Hours

The Center for African Studies will be open on a limited schedule during the fall quarter. The center will be open in person on Tuesdays to Thursdays from 11am - 4pm, and will be remote on Mondays and Fridays.

Directions and Parking

Our office is located on the first floor of Encina Commons across the street from the Graduate School of Business. We encourage you to download and print both the Parking and Circulation Map and Visitor Map and bring them with you.

Public Transport

  1. Take CalTrain to the Downtown Palo Alto station or Buses to the Palo Alto Transit Center (adjacent to the train station)
  2. Catch the free Marguerite Shuttle Line Y from the station
  3. Get off at the stop at the intersection of Galvez and Serra Streets

Driving Directions

From 101:

  1. Take the Embarcadero Road exit
  2. Head east on Embarcadero St. toward the Stanford campus
  3. After crossing El Camino Real, Embarcadero Street changes names to Galvez Street
  4. Continue east on Galvez Street until you reach Serra Street
  5. Turn left on Serra Street to find parking

From 280:

  1. Take the Sandhill Road exit, head west toward campus
  2. Turn right on Stock Farm Road, then left on Campus Drive West. Follow Campus Drive to Galvez Street
  3. Take a right on Galvez Street until you reach Serra Street
  4. Turn left on Serra Street to find parking

Parking

Parking is free on campus after 4:00 pm on weekdays and is free all day on weekends. Before 4:00 pm, limited meter parking is available in front of Encina Hall as well as on Galvez Street, Serra Street, and Memorial Way (between Alumni Center  and the SIEPR Building on Galvez Street). We suggest parking in the underground structure #7 at the Knight Management Center (business school) on the corner of Campus Dr East and Bonair Siding.
