SS 1 THIRD TERM EXAMINATION 2018/ 2019 ACADEMIC SESSION


CHEMISTRY PRACTICAL
Chemistry educators are to develop questions that match materials under each question for
the practical classes. Final practical exam questions will be sent from Curriculum department.
1.In addition to the fittings and reagents normally contained in a chemistry laboratory, the
following apparatus and materials will be required by each candidate:
(a) A beaker
(b) Afunnel
(c)Filter paper.
(d) The following should be provided and labeled accordingly in a specimen bottle.
(i) A= Dilute hydrochloric acid
(ii) B= Sugar solution
(iii) C= Sodium Chloride solution
(iv) D= Ethanol
(v) E= aqueous ammonia
(f) Four test tubes.
(g) Red and Blue Litmus papers
(g) Wash bottle containing distilled/deionized water.
(h) Mathematical table/Calculator.
(j) Bursen burner
2. Each candidate should be supplied with One spatulaful of Na2CO3 in a specimen bottle
labelled ‘F’.
3. It should be noted that schools are not allowed to amend the information provided on the
question paper or substitute any substance/solution for those specified in these instructions.

CAUTION STATEMENT ON THE TOXICITY OF CHEMICALS


3. It is important that you remind candidates that chemicals could be dangerous when
they are not handled properly.
Before the practical examination starts, read out the following statement to the
candidates:
“Even though care has been taken to select the chemicals you would walk with you
are being reminded that chemicals could be dangerous it is therefore important that
you handle them carefully.
Call the attention of your invigilator as soon as you start having any unusual
sensation. Wash your mouth thoroughly with plenty of water should any chemical get
into it. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly as soon as you finish handling the
chemicals.”
It is however expected that you will put the appropriate arrangement in place to prevent the
occurrence of any accident.
