Course Purpose

This course will introduce the students to social concepts of gender and how its social
construction leads to inequalities in health and disease. Prerequisite courses; Psychology,
Medical sociology and anthropology
Expected Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

1. Define the terms gender and distinguish it with biological sex differentiation
2. Describe how gender is socially constructed in different cultures and its characterization
3. Discuss the relationship between gender and health & disease
4. Discuss gender inequality, gender violence and harmful practices like FGM
