The crane and gear/slings are checked using the suitable checklists
Sling operators wear protective gloves in addition to their basic protection equipment (shoes,
helmet, overalls)
Ladders are available and in good condition
During night operations, the area where sling operators work is suitably lit
Operations Verification
The crane operator positions his crane correctly to facilitate the stacking and grouping of
packages / containers
Only the signal man makes signals
The signal man remains in sight of the crane operator but outside the danger area
The sling operators are in their expected location
No-one except the signal man and the four sling operators are in the area where the sling
operators work
The signal man waits until the sling operators are visible outside the unsafe area to authorise the
powering up of the slings
The cargo is oriented correctly using long straps, without pushing the package with the hand or
foot and without grabbing the hooks or slings
The cargo is positioned lengthwise without any intervention from the sling operators who must
not pull or push the tube. Only the signal man must guide the crane operator using gestures.
The signal man is at least 3 m away from the cargo to be aligned to be able to judge its position
according to the other cargos
