About Protect My Car

Protect My Car, also known as PMC, was founded in 2005 and headquartered in Florida. The company offered three comprehensive vehicle service contracts in addition to maintenance plans.

The plans ranged from powertrain warranty protection to bumper-to-bumper coverage for vehicles up to 125,000 miles and had added perks like 24/7 roadside assistance, free oil changes and access to the PMC Rewards Plan.

We’ve extensively researched extended car warranty costs by mystery shopping with some of the top providers in the business, and found that the average extended car warranty costs around $1,297 per year of coverage. Based on quotes we gathered from Protect My Car in 2022, its costs were close to the average.

Protect My Car offered three extended warranty coverage options for drivers: Ultimate, a comprehensive plan; Deluxe, a mid-level plan; and Essential, an enhanced powertrain plan.


Protect My Car Reviews

Our research shows agents at Protect My Car were seen as helpful and professional on the whole. The extended warranty provider has an “Great” rating on Trustpilot with a rating of 3.9 out of 5 stars from more than 4,000 customer reviews. However, reviews through the Better Business Bureau website are below average, with a rating of 1.7 out of 5 stars and a F rating from the BBB itself.

Positive Protect My Car reviews praise the company’s helpful customer service representatives and easy claims process, which offered peace of mind for drivers. Negative reviews mention issues with reimbursement and getting benefits like oil changes and tire rotations covered.

What Happened to Protect My Car?

It’s not clear exactly what happened to Protect My Car, but the company is no longer offering new warranty plans. Existing customers can still log in to the customer portal online.

Back in 2023, Advanced Marketing & Processing Inc., doing business as Protect My Car, laid off 75 of its employees in St. Petersburg, Florida. However, as of the writing of this article, the company has not filed for bankruptcy or released an official statement.

A 2022 lawsuit claims Advanced Marketing & Processing DBA Protect My Car laid off more than 50 employees without providing advanced written notice. This lawsuit was ultimately dismissed in 2023. There are no public details on the reason for the dismissal, though the parties could have settled or come to an agreement out of court.

According to its contracts, customers can cancel a Protect My Car plan by submitting a cancellation request form. If you cancel within 30 days, you can get a full refund minus any claims paid. After 30 days, you can get a prorated refund based on time and mileage minus a $50 cancellation fee.
