These plans are also called “exclusionary warranties” because they come with a short list of what’s not covered rather than what is. The coverage found in these plans tend to be similar to the factory warranty that comes with new cars.

Extended warranties don’t cover every part and system in your vehicle. Instead, coverage is based on the type of extended warranty you purchase. In addition, all extended warranties outline a list of exclusions that the provider won’t cover. Although exclusions may differ between companies, here are some common exclusions:
