Jonathan Joss (December 22, 1965 - June 1, 2025) was a Native American (Comanche and White Mountain Apache) actor. He was best known for providing the voice of John Redcorn from Season 2 to Season 13 and recorded lines for the Season 14 revival of the animated series King of the Hill.[1] Joss took over the role from original actor Victor Aaron after he died in 1996 in a car accident. He was also known for his recurring role as Chief Ken Hotate in Parks and Recreation.

Death[]

On June 8, 2024, Joss's neighbor Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez called the police saying that Joss was allegedly brandishing a crossbow.[2] On May 24, 2024, police confiscated Joss's firearms.[3] Joss was murdered by Alvarez on June 1, 2025.[4] Joss's husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales said that Alvarez yelled "violent homophobic slurs" before opening fire and that Alvarez originally pointed the rifle towards Gonzales, but Joss pushed Gonzales out of the bullet's path, saving his life. Gonzales said that various people in the area had harrassed them with homophobic slurs and threats to burn down their home for years.[5]

Joss had recorded his voicelines as John Redcorn for four episodes of the series' revival in Season 14 and in "A Sounder Investment", which is Joss's final episode featuring him as Redcorn, it's dedicated to his memory.
