Question about Thrust Plates... A Thrust Plate basically a Centering Ring that is external to the rocket. It's OD is the same as the rocket's OD, it ID (depending on if you use a surface mounted retainer or not) can be the OD or the ID of the motor tube. They are used to transmit the forces of the motor through the airframe instead of directly on the engine tube, and they are used to absorb the impact of landing (if the fins don't extend beyond the bottom of the body tube) preventing the body tube from being damaged by the hit (and keeping dirt out). Typically, they have holes drilled in them for either Z clips, or surface mounted retainers. Now the question: So, how should we sim them? Thanks! |
