For those who don’t know, Creative Commons is a standard license for releasing items that is not source code, for free usage, as long as any changes also are shared, and the original work is attributed. There are a few different variants, from a Public Domain variant to others. Time Bandit /page/t/timebandit/ Sat, 06 Apr 2019 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /page/t/timebandit/ Time Bandit is an action-adventure game written for the TRS-80 Model I by Bill Dunlevy and Harry Lafnear and published by MichTron in 1983. It was ported to the TRS-80 Color Computer, Dragon 32, MS-DOS, Amiga and Atari ST. but enjoyed its greatest popularity several years later as an early release for the Atari ST. Amiga and MS-DOS-versions were ported by Timothy Purves. Development According to Harry Lafnear, Time Bandit was based on the 1982 arcade game Tutankham and was originally called Pharaoh. Published by Microdeal and created by John Conley and James Oxley for the Atari, and later ported to Amiga by Timothy M. Purves. Development We created Slaygon because most RPG style maze games at the time were lacking. You could not save your game without backtracking out of a dungeon and you had to use graph paper to map the dungeon. Benchmark Modula-2/Armadillo Computing Archives /page/benchmark-m2/ Fri, 20 Jul 2018 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /page/benchmark-m2/ An ongoing effort to archive, preserve and open source the classic Amiga Benchmark Modula-2 Compiler with friends. History This page was started after getting in touch with Jim Olinger of former Armadillo Computing, and Tom Breeden of amongst other software, the Aglet Compiler. Benchmark Modula-2 with friends was created in the mid-80’s, by Leon Frenkel and published, by Avant-Garde Software. Modula-2 was all the rage at the time, and many saw it as the replacement for C. Microdeal Archives /page/microdeal-archives/ Fri, 20 Jul 2018 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /page/microdeal-archives/ An ongoing effort to archive, preserve and open source the works that was published under the Microdeal and Michtron-label. Focus is on the Amiga, but there will be other platforms too. History This page was started after contacting John Symes, founder of Microdeal. He was supportive of the project of preserving the Microdeal/Michtron titles, and also mentioned that they only acted as publishers, and that the works belonged to their different authors. The hunt for Benchmark Modula-2 /post/2018-06-29-benchmarkmodula/ Fri, 29 Jun 2018 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /post/2018-06-29-benchmarkmodula/ It was with great preservation joy I received 16 old disks in the mail the other day, Containing some rare stuff regarding Modula-2, more precisely the Benchmark Modula-2 compiler environment, with updates and extras. As preservation if very much a detective work, it is always very rewarding when something interesting and concrete is found and preserved. So this little adventure all started when I got permission from Michal Todorovic and Kailash Ambwani to relase the former Gold Disk applications File and Pro Calc as Public Domain (CC0). Aegis Animator /page/aegisanimator/ Thu, 28 Jun 2018 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /page/aegisanimator/ Aegis Animator is an early paint and animation package, written by Jim Kent and published by Aegis Development. Quartet /page/q/quartet/ Thu, 28 Jun 2018 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /page/q/quartet/ Quartet - is a classic music program for Amiga and Atari, originally published by Microdeal. The Quartet versions on the two platforms were actually two totally different music programs, done by different authors, and only shared name and box design. Development Quartet for the Atari ST was done by two University students, Rob Povey and Kewin Cowtan. Dan Lennard, also a University student at the time wrote the Amiga version. Turbo Trax /page/t/turbotrax/ Sun, 10 Jun 2018 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /page/t/turbotrax/ Turbo Trax is a racing game which tries to bring the feeling of electric car races to the computer. The courses feature elements from the toys like crossovers or chicanes, along with a pit stop which can be used to repair damage or refuel. However, the gameplay is action oriented with the main challenge to avoid going too fast into curves. There are two playing modes: racing against the AI (or another player) or a time trial. Computers And Chaos by Conrad Bessant /post/2018-05-16-conrad-book/ Wed, 16 May 2018 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /post/2018-05-16-conrad-book/ Another day, another book permission given. Conrad Bessant wrote “Computers and Chaos” back in 93 for the Amiga and Atari ST, and has given us the permission to release it under Creative Commons. The book is about writing fractals and fractal landscapes on the amiga and atari. We are so very glad for that, and look forward to giving it the PDF and Asciidoc treatment. However, our work queue is already filled for a while, as we plan to finish two of Overaas books, with some more source code releases in between, but hopefully it will be available after the summer. All books and source code we helped preserve can be found in our Gitlab-repository But why? The books can already be found on site X? The short answer - we try to make the books free under a liberal usage license - once and for all, legally. If one searches around, most of them can be found on the internet, in various scanned formats. Even if most of their original authors or copyright owners would give their permission to release them under something like Creative Commons or even Public Domain if just asked, they most likely, have not been asked. And we like legally correct things and to have the authors permission for projects released on this site. How to convert PageMaker 2 and 4 files to Postscript /post/2018-04-02-restoring-pagemaker/ Mon, 02 Apr 2018 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /post/2018-04-02-restoring-pagemaker/ I had a few manual files in an unknown format, and without any extensions that I wanted to read and convert. I was given some hints to as what they were by looking at them in a hexeditor - PM 4.2 it said. Hmmm - a discussion with a fellow retro interested contact gave that he thought they were in PageMaker format. But he had been unsuccessful in opening them. As I never, ever, had used an Apple OS from before maybe 2006, (and still don’t do if I can avoid it), I had some read up to do. Preserving the catalogue of CCS/New Horizons /post/2018-03-04-preserving-code/ Sun, 04 Mar 2018 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /post/2018-03-04-preserving-code/ The other day a package arrived at my home. It was quite heavy, and inside it was a box of old floppy disks that had been lying in storage for many years. Half of the disks were marked with source, and they were supposed to contain the collected backups of Central Coast Software, New Horizons and finally Wci. By the current copyright owner I had been given the permission to release the code as open source - if I could manage to read the disks and find the source code. Source Code /page/sourcecode/ Sun, 04 Mar 2018 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /page/sourcecode/ Some of the source code restored with our help (not everything) is listed here. Most source code we helped archive can (soon, we are adding projects all the time) be found in our Gitlab-repository. We also upload our packages to aminet, now and then, but check the Gitlab-repository if you want to contribute or have the latest version. Note This page will be MUCH more detailed in the future, with a bit of trivia for each project etc. /page/nh-ccs-wci-archives/ Mon, 01 Jan 0001 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /page/nh-ccs-wci-archives/ /page/nh-ccs-wci-archives/ Mon, 01 Jan 0001 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /page/nh-ccs-wci-archives/ About/Why? /page/about/ Mon, 01 Jan 0001 00:00:00 +0000 [email protected] (Amiga Source Code Preservation) /page/about/ Dust.
